We’ve both worked in fashion and loved every bit of it. It’s what drove us. Naturally enough, writing was one of our strengths and the most obvious thing was to become journalists. But as much as we loved writing, there was a need to creatively express ourselves in more ways. So, here we are sharing our love for food, fashion and dressing in the easiest (well, not really!) way possible. This is our first shoot and it was a whirlwind of emotions. Right from planning, briefing our photographer, fixing the hair that won’t tame itself, to walking in heels after twisting an ankle…we did it all in a such short span of time! We wanted to keep it simple and put forward our true styles through this shoot.
Meet the Crazies
Prerna Gauba
About two years back, I entered the world of fashion by interning with a luxury magazine in Delhi. I knew very little about how magazines worked and what fashion was. To me, it was what I had seen in movies. But well, it wasn’t like I expected it to be, it had much more.
After a few days, I got a chance to assist a shoot and I did as many goof ups as you can imagine. I misread Louis Vuitton for Louboutin stilettos, taped the shoes wrongly, mixed up luxe designer clothes with each other and was even yelled at! In fact I was beyond embarrassed to enter the green room, and see models change after every shot.
But two months and two shoots down, I had pretty much conquered how to pronounce, source and ‘air kiss.’ I knew all brands, their latest collections, what’s fine jewellery, nude makeup and even got used to helping models bare their clothes infront of me! Hah!
I loved being surrounded by clothes all the time and now I am obsessed with fashion. Like Parisians can spend hours staring at a painting; Dubliners can spend all day reading; I can spend all day surrounded by clothes- shiny, sparkly and printed. From the little black dress by Dior, flowy cocktail gowns by Valentino to louche T-shirts from Zara, I love them all. An admirer of Audrey Hepburn and Marlyn Monroe, my personal style is vintage and very feminine. I am my own muse and like Mademoiselle Coco Chanel said, “every day is a fashion show and the world is the runway.”
Somya Suresh
My career in fashion started off with an e-commerce company where I saw a new garment every minute. Oddly enough, even though the job was mundane, I learnt so much about the business that I could never look back. Fashion has been an intrinsic part of my life from childhood. Right from designing my first outfit inspired by Urmilla Matondkar dancing in the ‘Rangeela’ (that short flowy skirt) to having my own online store when I was in college. The style aficionado in me never really went anywhere. Professionally, I was journalist and I loved writing for the fashion industry.
I love to photograph (whenever Prerna decides to pose) and you’ll be seeing that a lot in the future. Other than that, I LOVE eating chaat. I am obsessed, trust me. Every chaat bhaiya is my best friend and I will tell you the best places to ‘score’ chaat from Delhi and Bombay – because that’s where I’ve lived. My personal style is experimental, and I really love going with the tide and going against it. I love trying new styles and twisting them to suit my body type.
It was my undying ambition to become an entrepreneur that I was always looking for a route to start something of my own. So when I met Prerna, it seemed to just fit. We decided to start Eat Style Shop because as much as we love fashion, we can’t stop gorging on food!
